Hi, I’m Pippa, I have owned and cared for dogs all my adult life and was brought up with dogs as a child. I am canine first aid trained, DBS checked, licenced for Home Boarding by Harrogate Borough Council (LN / 199316794) fully insured, and hold a diploma and a certificate in general canine body language/behaviour. I started a Foundation Degree in Canine & Behaviour Training at Bishop Burton College this year and am loving it already!
I am a firm believer in continuing education and regularly enhancing and updating my canine knowledge with further workshops, first aid training and canine education. I particularly enjoy attending courses run by the IMDT, I have undertaken 2 so far and completed the 2-day Career as A Dog Trainer course in January 2020.
I have my own furbaby, an 9 year old jack russell called Lady who vets every new pooch that joins our gang! My daughter, Robyn, works for me full time and my other daughter, Charlotte, joins us for walks frequently. We are a family run business, we don’t employ staff, so you can be assured that your pooches will get our full and best attention at all times and are treated like family 100% of the time they’re with us!
I also have a FaceBook page, please feel free to take a look at it and all the happy dogs that have joined the Pooches gang
WALKS
When you live a busy life, it is hard to consistently provide the attention and care that your dogs need.
We can make sure your furry family member has company during the day, a toilet break and fun with their new playmates! Your fur baby will join a group that has been carefully selected to ensure they are well matched, taking into consideration their play styles, energy levels and personalities. On wet, muddy days they are either towelled down or lightly showered to be returned home as clean as possible.
In hot weather your dog will have a cooling mat to lie on during the journey to and from each walk, the van has air con and we always have plenty of water available. All our walks have wooded areas for shade, and rivers for swimming!
All dogs wear a Pippa's Pooches identity tag during walks, with our contact details for safety purposes and as required by Harrogate Borough Council.
Morning (between 9.00 and 11.00) lunchtime (between 12.00 and 2.00) walks are available.
PUPPIES
I also provide a puppy visiting service for the new addition to your family. I will come to your home and either let your pup out for a toilet break, some gentle play time and cuddles of course! Or, once fully vaccinated, I can take him/her out for a walk (the recommended rule of thumb being 5 minutes per month of age up to 6 months old). I suggest 2 walks a day for puppies that are home alone for a full day whilst you are out at work. And, once fully confident on the lead, your fur baby can join a suitable group walk for some socialisation. I have completed several educational courses on puppy care and development, it is such a vital time in your dog’s life it’s important to get everything right from training to socialisation.
If you are interested in some reading matter before your new pup comes to its new home, I highly recommend Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy written by Steve Mann.
MEET & GREET
Prior to any dog joining the Pooches gang I will arrange to visit you at home to meet your dog and get to know him/her and have a chat with you about your dog's habits, requirements, likes and dislikes. Then, once you are happy to go ahead with regular walks, I have a veterinary release form and terms and conditions/registration form for you to complete and sign, after which it's all systems go!
I am a licensed boarder providing a true home from home experience for your fur baby. My home is warm and welcoming, dogs are allowed free run of the whole house and my fully secure, enclosed garden. I have lots of enrichment toys, soft dog beds (and several human beds if that’s what your dog prefers!) and we do a minimum of 2 walks a day with our houseguests.
A trial overnight sleepover is always booked in before any boarding booking to ensure your dog is happy here and they get on with my dog Lady.
9.00 to 5.00 doggy daycare in our home with a collection and drop off service. Your pooch will spend a full day with us. Including walks tailored to their individual needs, plenty of playtime in our fully secure garden and rest time on our comfy sofas or the selection of dog beds that we have.
From October 2020 we are offering cat or small animal visits to our services! Allowing you to go away on holiday safe in the knowledge that your pets are going to be well cared for.
We can visit once or twice a day as required to give your pets some company and clean out litter trays/cages, feed and water your pets and ensure your house is secure.
Group walks will have no more than 4 dogs per person as regulated by HBC, as there is usually two of us on each walk you can be assured that your pooch will always at least one pair of eyes watching over him/her!
We walk around Nidd Gorge, Knaresborough River and Jacob Smith Park as well as other beautiful local countryside areas.
Occasionally we have smaller groups to walk, so we go for a long adventure walk somewhere a little further afield, no extra charge for these walk!
30 minute home visit to let your pup out for a toilet break and give him/her some gentle playtime, basic training (such as getting pup accustomed to their collar/lead, sit/stay) and cuddles of course!
A 30 minute walk once your pup has been vaccinated, and continue your basic training of lead walking/sit/stay. Please be assured your pup will not be over exercised, their little joints take a long time to fully develop (longer than a year for large breeds!) so it is vital to ensure a pup is exercised according to their breed and age. With that in mind, I have a puppy carrier for longer walks.
Overnight stays in my home
Home from home care for your pooch, usually 9.00 am to 5.00 pm with a collection and drop off service available.

In order to confirm either dog walking or home boarding bookings, completion of a Registration Form, Veterinary Release Form and Terms and Conditions will be required, in addition to providing a copy of your original vaccinations certificate that is provided by your vet.
